Timber Windows Park

Woodfellas are the timber window experts based in Park. We make, renovate, and fit timber windows from our Park base, covering both homes and business properties across Central Scotland.

Made to measure, responsibly sourced timber, double glazing, improved security. Every window we produce is made to the same standard. No shortcuts.

Tenements need sash and case, modern extensions want casement, and some properties need a full replacement set. Whatever the job, we build in-house and install ourselves. No middlemen.

Our timber window range

We build two primary types of timber window, one suited to older properties, one right for newer ones. Both are made in treated pine or hardwood, and both include double-glazed sealed units as standard.

Sash and case windows

The original Scottish window, and still the first choice.

Sash windows work on a simple but clever system: they slide vertically in a timber box frame using cords and counterbalance weights. You’ll find them on most of Park’s period tenements, and if you’ve got a listed property or conservation area property, they’re the only permitted replacement where sash and case was the original design.

We refurbish, fix, and manufacture custom sash windows built to match original profiles and proportions. The outcome is modern thermal and acoustic results in a window that fits right in.

Here’s the thing: renovating your original frames with draught-proofing and double glazing upgrades is often the best call if the frames are still solid. We always do a full survey before recommending replacement.

Casement windows

Casement windows are hinged and swing outward to open, creating a wider opening for ventilation and making cleaning from inside much easier. They’re widespread on Park properties dating from the 1920s onwards, as well as extensions, dormers, and new builds.

We manufacture custom timber casement windows in side hung, top hung, and fixed setups. Just like our sash windows, every casement is custom-built and fitted with double glazing as standard, no exceptions.

Our timber casement windows section covers all listed styles and options in complete detail.

Why timber is the right choice

Hundreds of years of timber windows, and they’re not still around out of habit. Timber actually outperforms UPVC and aluminium in multiple areas that matter to homeowners. The numbers speak for themselves.

Natural insulation

The frame matters, not just the glass. Timber transfers heat far less readily than aluminium and outperforms UPVC at the equivalent frame width, giving better thermal performance from the frame itself, before the double glazing even comes into it.

In a country like Scotland, where heating costs represent a real issue for most households, the insulating properties of a timber frame make a tangible difference.

Repair not replace

Timber window gets damaged? You can sort it.

Rot in a sill, fresh timber goes in. Damaged frame part, it gets replaced in section. The story with UPVC is different: no repair option, so when it goes, the whole unit goes to landfill and you’re starting from scratch.

Over the working life of a property, the ability to look after timber windows rather than carrying out full replacement represents genuine savings in both money and material waste.

Timber sustainability

Every piece of timber we select is sourced from responsibly managed forests, that’s how we operate.

Holds carbon as long as it works, then decomposes cleanly. No landfill, no toxic process. UPVC is plastic from oil, and aluminium production is extremely carbon-heavy. The difference doesn’t need explaining.

Your home’s carbon footprint is important? Then timber is the clear choice. It always has been.

Aesthetics and value

There’s a heft, a depth, and a grain to timber windows that artificial materials simply can’t replicate.

Traditional sandstone tenement. Blonde stone villa. Period Scottish cottage. Put timber windows in and they fit. Put UPVC in and it’s always slightly wrong, it never quite manages that same fit.

Timber windows also contribute genuine value to a property, particularly period properties where original or sympathetic features are part of the overall appeal.

Double-glazed timber windows

Whether sash or casement, all the windows we manufacture feature double-glazed sealed units fitted. It’s always installed.

Two panes of glass. A cavity between them. The sealed unit sits inside the timber frame and manages the rest, cutting heat transfer, lifting sound insulation.

Timber frame. Double glazing. Combined: solid thermal and acoustic results across both window types.

If your property calls for a traditional divided-light look, we can install glazing bars, just ask.

Got older timber windows that are still sound but only single glazed? In many cases we can switch them to double glazing as part of a restoration programme, retaining the original frames and improving performance without a full replacement.

This represents a regular request on Park’s older properties, where solidly built existing sash windows perform structurally well but single glazing lets in cold air and road noise.

Every unit we install complies with current building regulations for thermal standards. Always.

Timber windows and conservation areas and listed buildings

There are more than 600 conservation areas in Scotland, quite a total.

If your property is in one of these areas, UPVC is not an acceptable window material, and your local council might well require replacements that mirror the original in material, design, and profile.

Twenty years of producing timber windows for conservation areas and listed buildings throughout Scotland. The council expectations? We’ve seen them all. We understand what’s expected.

We can advise on consent requirements and build windows that meet planning condition while delivering modern standards. If you want more on the regulations, our sash and case windows page covers them in full detail.

Types of timber we work with

Two timber types. That’s what we stock across the entire window product range.

Treated pine represents the most frequently chosen option. It is pressure-treated to resist rot and decay, takes a paint finish well, and works well in Park’s damp weather.

For properties where a natural timber look is desired, or where added strength is called for, we offer hardwood, which is by nature more resistant to damage and takes stains and oils beautifully.

Not sure which timber to choose? We advise on the right option for each job based on the property, the exposure, and the finish you want.

Wooden windows, frequently asked questions

What kinds of timber windows do you make?

Sash and case is the traditional Park style, moving vertically in a timber box frame, that’s one type. Casement windows are hinged and swing out, that’s the other. Both are available in treated pine or hardwood. And we build fixed window panels too, for any window opening configuration.

Timber windows vs UPVC, which is better?

On results, longevity, and looks: yes. Timber insulates more effectively at the comparable frame width, lasts considerably longer when maintained, and can be fixed rather than fully replaced when damage occurs. It’s also the only material permitted for listed buildings and is highly preferred in conservation areas.

Can you replace single glazing with double glazing in existing timber windows?

In a significant number of cases, yes. Where existing timber frames are in good condition, we can switch the glazing to double-glazed sealed units as part of a restoration programme. This keeps the original frames and look while lifting thermal and acoustic performance.
