Woodfellas are Glasgow’s bespoke timber door manufacturers. We design, build, and install wooden doors from our workshop in Glasgow, covering homes and commercial properties across Central Scotland.
Every door we produce is made to measure using sustainably sourced hardwood, with double glazing and enhanced security fitted as standard on all external doors. Whether you need a storm door for a tenement close, an entrance door for a period villa, bi-fold doors for a kitchen extension, or a timber shop front for your business, we build it in-house and fit it ourselves.
We manufacture several types of timber door, each designed for a different application. All are high quality hardwood, and all external doors come with double glazing and multi-point locking as standard.
Storm doors
The traditional Glasgow door. Storm doors are the outer front doors found on tenement properties and period homes across the city, typically opening into a small vestibule before the inner door. They take the full force of the weather and need to be built to handle it. We manufacture bespoke timber storm doors in panelled, fully glazed, and double-leaf configurations, all made to measure for openings that are often larger than standard door sizes.
Not every front door is a storm door. For detached houses, semi-detached properties, cottages, and newer builds, we manufacture bespoke timber entrance doors that match the style of the property and deliver the security and insulation you’d expect from a modern external door. Entrance doors can be solid timber, part-glazed, or fully glazed depending on the look you want and the level of privacy you need.
Timber bi-fold doors fold back in concertina fashion to open up a full wall between your interior and your garden, patio, or deck. They’re a popular choice for kitchen extensions, dining rooms, and living spaces where you want to blur the line between inside and outside. We manufacture bespoke timber bi-fold doors in configurations from two panels up to six or more, all double glazed and fitted with multi-point locking.
For commercial premises, we design and build bespoke timber shop fronts that combine a welcoming street presence with the durability and security a business needs. A timber shop front has a warmth and character that aluminium and UPVC can’t match, and it’s the preferred material for commercial properties in conservation areas where the council requires sympathetic design.
Most door companies in Glasgow sell UPVC, composite, or aluminium doors. They’re mass-produced, they come in limited sizes, and they all look more or less the same. A bespoke timber door is a different product entirely, and the differences go well beyond appearance.
Every timber door we build starts with the measurements of your actual opening, not a catalogue of standard sizes. That matters because older Glasgow properties rarely have standard-sized door frames, particularly tenements where the openings can be significantly taller and wider than modern builds. A made-to-measure door fits the opening properly, which means better weatherproofing, better security, and a finish that looks like it belongs.
Timber is a natural insulator. It conducts heat far less readily than aluminium and outperforms UPVC at comparable thicknesses. Combined with double glazing in the panels and draught-proofing around the frame, a timber door creates a proper thermal barrier at the entrance to your home. In a city where heating bills are a real concern, that matters.
A well-maintained timber door can last 60 years or more. Many of Glasgow’s original Victorian and Edwardian doors are still in daily use after well over a century, which says a lot about the material. UPVC doors typically last 20 to 25 years before the plastic degrades, and composite doors can delaminate or warp over time. Timber ages gracefully, and when it eventually needs attention, it can be sanded, repaired, and refinished rather than thrown out and replaced.
If a timber door gets damaged, the affected area can be repaired. Rot in a bottom rail can be cut out and new timber spliced in. A cracked panel can be replaced without touching the rest of the door. Worn ironmongery can be swapped out. UPVC and composite doors don’t offer the same option. When they fail, the whole unit goes to landfill. Over the lifetime of a property, the ability to repair rather than replace saves money and reduces waste.
We source all our timber from sustainably managed forests. Timber is renewable, stores carbon throughout its working life, and biodegrades naturally at end of life. UPVC is a plastic derived from oil. Aluminium production is energy-intensive. If the environmental footprint of your home or business matters to you, timber is the clear choice for doors as well as windows.
Every external timber door we manufacture comes with enhanced security as standard. Multi-point locking secures the door to the frame at several points around its perimeter, which is a significant improvement on the single-point locks found on most older doors. Combined with a solid timber construction and double-glazed panels, our doors provide a level of security that matches or exceeds what you’d get from a UPVC or composite equivalent.

Glasgow has over 20 designated conservation areas, and many of the city’s older properties are Category A, B, or C listed buildings. If your property falls into either category, UPVC and aluminium are not acceptable materials for external doors, and Glasgow City Council requires replacements that match the original in material, design, and profile.
We’ve been manufacturing timber doors for conservation area and listed building properties across Glasgow for over 20 years. We replicate original panel layouts, moulding profiles, glazing patterns, and ironmongery styles while delivering modern performance in terms of insulation, security, and weatherproofing.
If you’re unsure whether your property needs Listed Building Consent or prior approval for a new door, we can check and advise before any work begins.
Hardwood is denser and naturally more resistant to wear than lower quality wood, with a stunning finish that shows the grain of the wood rather than covering it. Hardwood is a popular choice for front doors on listed buildings and period restorations where the timber itself is part of the appeal.
We recommend the right timber and finish for each project based on the property, the exposure, and the look you want.
We manufacture storm doors, entrance doors, bi-fold doors, and timber shop fronts. Storm doors are the traditional external doors found on Glasgow’s tenement properties. Entrance doors are bespoke front doors for all property types. Bi-fold doors open up a full wall between your interior and outdoor space. Shop fronts are designed for commercial premises. All are made to measure in hardwood.
For performance, longevity, and appearance, yes. Timber insulates better at the same thickness, lasts significantly longer when maintained, and can be repaired rather than replaced when damage occurs. Timber is also the only material accepted by Glasgow City Council for listed buildings and is strongly preferred in conservation areas. UPVC doors typically last 20 to 25 years, while well-maintained timber doors can last 60 years or more.
If your property is a listed building, you’ll need Listed Building Consent from Glasgow City Council. In conservation areas, you may need prior approval for doors visible from the road. Outside these areas, replacing an external door doesn’t usually require planning permission as long as the new door meets building regulations. We can check your property and advise.
We use hardwood in all our doors. Hardwood is naturally more durable and is the better choice where a natural timber finish is preferred. Both are sustainably sourced. We recommend the right option for each project based on the property and the finish you want.
