Timber Windows Moorpark

If you need timber windows done properly in Moorpark, Woodfellas are the ones to call. We make, restore, and fit timber windows out of our Moorpark premises, serving houses and commercial properties throughout Central Scotland.

Each window is custom-built using ethically sourced treated pine or hardwood timber. Double glazing and improved security come as standard on every window.

Whatever you need, sash and case for a tenement, casement for a modern extension, or a full new set for any sort of property, we build them in-house and install ourselves.

Our timber window range

Two types of timber window. Each designed for different properties and needs. Both made in treated pine or hardwood. Both featuring double-glazed sealed units as standard.

Traditional sash windows

The classic Scottish window, and still the go-to.

Sash windows move vertically within a box frame, via a system of weighted cords and pulleys. They represent the original window type on most of Moorpark’s period tenements, and they’re the only accepted replacement for listed buildings and conservation area properties where sash and case was the original design.

The best sash windows look exactly like the original. We refurbish, sort, and make custom ones replicating existing profiles and proportions, while achieving modern thermal and acoustic performance where it matters.

Restoration often includes draught-proofing and double glazing upgrades, and it’s the most sensible route where the original frames are sound. We complete full inspections before recommending replacement.

Casement windows

Casement windows are the hinged type: they swing out to open, which gives you a bigger opening for airflow and means you can reach them without trouble from inside. They’re all over Moorpark properties dating from the 1920s on, and they’re the usual option for extensions, dormers, and newer builds.

Side hung, top hung, fixed, three setups, all in custom timber. And like our sash windows, every casement we build is custom-built and fitted with double glazing as standard.

All the styles, all the choices, it’s on our timber casement windows page.

Why timber is the right call

There’s a good reason people have been putting timber windows in houses for generations, and it’s not just because they always have. Timber genuinely outperforms UPVC and aluminium in multiple areas that make a difference to property owners.

Timber’s natural insulation

Timber transfers heat far less quickly than aluminium and outperforms UPVC at the same frame thicknesses. The outcome is superior thermal performance from the frame itself, and that’s before the double glazing factors in.

Scotland’s not exactly tropical, and energy costs are no joke, so the fact that timber frames retain warmth better makes a tangible effect to what you spend.

Repair, don’t replace

If a timber window is damaged, the good news is you can sort it.

Rot in a sill or bottom rail can be cut out and fresh timber fitted in. A damaged section of frame can be replaced in section. UPVC can’t be repaired in the same way. When it fails, the entire unit ends up in landfill and you start over.

Over the working life of a property, repairing and maintaining timber windows rather than replacing them cuts cost and cuts material waste. It’s a straightforward calculation.

The sustainable option

The timber we select is sourced from ethically managed woodland, every length of it.

Timber: renewable. Stores carbon. Biodegrades naturally. UPVC: plastic from oil. Aluminium manufacturing: extremely carbon-heavy.

If the environmental impact of your home matters to you, timber is the obvious choice. It’s as straightforward as that.

The appeal and value of timber windows

Weight. Depth. Grain. No synthetic material can replicate it.

Sandstone tenement. Light stone villa. Period Scottish cottage. Timber windows belong. UPVC never quite manages.

Timber windows also add measurable value to a property, especially older properties where period-appropriate features are part of the overall appeal.

Double-glazed timber windows

Every single window we manufacture, sash or casement, features double-glazed sealed units fitted as standard. Always.

Two sheets of glass. A cavity between them. The sealed unit is housed inside the timber frame and handles the rest, limiting heat transfer, lifting sound insulation.

Timber frame. Double glazing. Combined: solid thermal and acoustic performance across both window types.

If your property needs a traditional divided-light look, we can install glazing bars, just ask.

Got older timber windows that are still solid but only single glazed? In a lot of cases we can convert them to double glazing as part of a restoration, retaining the original frames and boosting thermal performance without replacing everything.

Moorpark’s older properties bring up this request all the time. Well-built existing sash windows, but single glazing that admits cold air and ambient noise like there’s nothing there.

Every unit we fit meets the latest building regulations for thermal performance. Always.

Timber windows in listed buildings and conservation areas

There are over 600 conservation areas in Scotland, a significant total.

If your property is in one of these areas, you need to know that UPVC is not an acceptable window material. Your local council will likely require replacements that replicate the original in material, design, and profile.

Twenty years of making timber windows for conservation areas and listed buildings throughout Scotland. The council requirements? We’ve been through all of it. We understand what’s expected.

We can walk you through consent conditions and make windows that satisfy planning condition while giving you modern standards. Our sash and case windows page covers the regulations in more depth.

Our timber types

Two timber types. That’s what we work with across all window range.

Treated pine is the most requested choice, and for good reasons. It’s pressure-treated to prevent rot and decay, holds a painted finish well, and holds up well in Moorpark’s wet weather.

A natural timber finish, extra durability, hardwood answers both. By nature more resistant to wear, and it accepts stains and oils so well.

We’ll advise on which timber is best for your job based on the property, the exposure, and what finish you’re after.

Common questions about timber windows

What types of timber windows do you make?

We produce sash and case windows and casement windows, both offered in treated pine or hardwood. Sash and case are the traditional Moorpark style, moving up and down within a box frame. Casement windows are hinged and open out. We also make fixed window panels to suit any opening configuration.

Are timber windows better than UPVC?

Yes, for results, longevity, and looks, timber is the better choice. It insulates more effectively at the same frame width, lasts significantly longer when maintained, and can be fixed rather than replaced. It’s also the sole material accepted for listed buildings and is greatly favoured in conservation areas.

Can I replace single glazing to double glazing in existing timber windows?

In a significant number of cases, yes. Where existing timber frames are in good condition, we can upgrade the glazing to double-glazed sealed units as part of a restoration. This keeps the existing frames and look while lifting thermal and acoustic performance.
