Timber Windows Lenzie

If you need timber windows done right in Lenzie, Woodfellas are the right choice. We build, restore, and install timber windows out of our Lenzie premises, serving houses and commercial clients throughout Central Scotland.

Custom-built, ethically sourced timber, double glazing, upgraded security. Every window we make is built the same way. No shortcuts.

Whether you need sash and case windows for a Victorian tenement, casement windows for a newer extension, or a complete set of new windows for any sort of property, we make them ourselves and put them in ourselves.

Our timber window options

Two types of timber window. Each built for different properties and requirements. Both available in treated pine or hardwood. Both including double-glazed sealed units as standard.

Sash and case windows

Scotland’s original window type.

Sash windows slide vertically within a timber box frame, with a system of weighted cords and pulleys doing the work. They’re the standard window type on most of Lenzie’s period tenements, and the required replacement for listed buildings and conservation area properties where sash and case was the existing design.

Whether your sash windows need renovating, repairing, or replacing altogether, we build custom ones that match the original profiles and proportions, while still delivering modern thermal and acoustic performance.

If your original frames are in good condition, restoration, draught-proofing and double glazing upgrades, is often the best call. We complete full inspections before recommending replacement, so you know exactly where you are.

Hinged casement windows

The hinged window. Opens outward, lets in more ventilation, easy to clean from inside without leaning out. Casement windows became the norm on Lenzie properties from the 1920s on, including extensions, dormers, and new builds.

We build custom timber casement windows in side hung, top hung, and fixed arrangements, so whatever style you need, we can make it. And like our sash windows, every casement is built to your size and fitted with double glazing as standard.

Why timber is the right choice for windows

Timber has been the default window material for hundreds of years, and it’s worth knowing why. It actually outperforms UPVC and aluminium in several areas that count to households, and that’s not just tradition.

Timber’s insulating properties

Timber conducts heat far less easily than aluminium. Outperforms UPVC at the same frame thicknesses. Stronger thermal performance from the frame itself, before the double glazing even gets involved.

Scotland’s not exactly warm, and heating bills are no joke, so the fact that timber frames retain warmth better makes a genuine impact to what you pay.

Timber windows, repair before replace

Wear sets in. With timber, that’s not the end of the story. You can sort it.

Rot in a sill can be cut out and new timber spliced in its place. A damaged section of frame can be replaced in section. UPVC offers no such alternative: when it deteriorates, the entire unit goes to landfill and everything starts from scratch.

Over a property’s lifespan: repair and maintain, not replace. Cuts cost. Cuts waste.

Sustainability

All our timber comes from sustainably managed forests.

Holds carbon as long as it stands, then biodegrades naturally. No landfill, no toxic process. UPVC is plastic from oil, and aluminium manufacturing is highly carbon-heavy. The difference is clear.

For those for whom the environmental footprint of their property is a priority, timber represents the obvious option.

Beauty and value

The heft, feel, and natural grain of timber windows is something no man-made alternative can copy.

Sandstone tenement. Pale stone villa. Traditional Scottish cottage. Timber windows look right. UPVC just can’t.

Value, too. On period properties, where original or sympathetic features are part of what makes them special, timber windows add genuine worth that UPVC never quite does.

Double glazing in wooden windows

All windows manufactured by Woodfellas, whether sash or casement, come with double-glazed sealed units installed as standard.

The sealed unit fits inside the timber frame: it’s two sheets of glass with a cavity between them, which limits heat transfer and lifts sound insulation.

Combined with the inherent thermal qualities of the timber frame, a double-glazed timber window gives you strong thermal and acoustic performance across both sash and casement types.

Need a traditional divided-light look? We add glazing bars.

Got older timber windows that are still solid but only single glazed? In a lot of cases we can switch them to double glazing as part of a restoration programme, keeping the existing frames and lifting performance without a full replacement.

Lenzie’s older properties throw up this situation all the time. Well-constructed existing sash windows, but single glazing that lets in cold and ambient noise like there’s nothing there.

Every unit we install is compliant with current building regulations for thermal standards. That’s guaranteed.

Timber windows for conservation areas and listed buildings

Scotland has more than 600 recognised conservation areas, and if you’re in one, it makes a difference.

Conservation area, and your windows need replacing? UPVC is not an approved material, your local council will likely require replacements that replicate the original in material, design, and profile. It’s a firm requirement.

Over 20 years producing timber windows for conservation areas and listed buildings throughout Scotland. We know what the council expects.

We help with consent conditions. We produce windows that satisfy planning condition. Modern performance included. Our sash and case windows page covers the regulations in more depth.

Timber types we work with

Two timber types, and that’s what we work with across all window range.

Most customers pick treated pine. It’s pressure-treated to prevent rot and decay, holds a paint finish really well, and performs in Lenzie’s damp conditions with no trouble.

Want a natural timber look or need extra durability? Hardwood is the answer, naturally more resistant to deterioration, and it accepts stains and oils so well.

Property, exposure, finish, three things we look at before helping you choose the right timber for each project. Get those right and the rest follows.

Timber windows FAQ

What types of timber windows do you manufacture?

We produce both sash and case windows and casement windows, offered in treated pine or hardwood. Sash and case windows are the traditional Lenzie style, operating by moving vertically within a timber box frame. Casement windows are hinged and open outward. We also produce fixed window panels to suit any opening setup.

Timber or UPVC, which is the better window?

Yes, for results, lifespan, and looks, timber is the better choice. It insulates better at the equivalent frame thickness, lasts significantly longer when looked after, and can be repaired rather than fully replaced. It’s also the only material permitted for listed buildings and is strongly preferred in conservation areas.

Can you replace single glazing with double glazing in existing timber windows?

In most cases, yes! If your current frames are in solid condition, we can upgrade to double-glazed sealed units as part of a restoration programme, retaining the existing frames and character while improving thermal and acoustic results.
