Timber Windows Kings Park

Woodfellas are Kings Park’s established timber window experts, manufacturing, renovating, and putting in timber windows from a Kings Park base that serves houses and commercial properties across Central Scotland.

Every window that we make is made to measure from ethically sourced treated pine or hardwood, and double glazing and improved security are fitted as standard.

Tenements need sash and case, contemporary extensions want casement, and some properties need a full replacement set. Whatever the job, we produce in-house and fit ourselves. No middlemen.

Our timber window options

Two main types of timber window, each perfectly suited to different properties and requirements. Both made in treated pine or hardwood, and both feature double-glazed sealed units as standard.

Sash window types

The traditional Scottish window, and it hasn’t changed.

Sash windows work on a clever system: they slide up and down in a box frame using cords and counterbalance weights. You’ll find them on most of Kings Park’s Victorian and Edwardian tenements, and if you’ve got a listed building or conservation area property, they’re the required replacement where sash and case was the existing design.

We renovate, repair, and manufacture custom sash windows that replicate the existing profiles and proportions while delivering modern thermal and acoustic performance.

A lot of the time, restoring the existing frames, draught-proofing and double glazing, is the smarter call if the frames themselves are still in good shape. We always do a full inspection before recommending a replacement.

Casement windows

Casement windows swing outward on hinges, wider opening for airflow, easy access from inside. You’ll find them all over Kings Park properties dating from the 1920s onwards, and on extensions, dormers, and new builds.

Side hung, top hung, fixed, we manufacture custom timber casement windows in all three styles. Like our sash windows, every single one is built to order and fitted with double glazing as standard.

Why timber is the right choice for windows

Timber windows have been around for hundreds of years, and there’s a good reason they’ve stayed the first choice. It’s not just tradition, timber truly outperforms UPVC and aluminium in a number of areas that make a difference to households.

Natural heat insulation

Here’s something that catches out people: timber actually carries heat far less quickly than aluminium, and it outperforms UPVC at the same frame thickness. That means the frame itself is already doing stronger thermal work before you even consider the double glazing.

Scotland. Cold. Expensive to heat. A timber frame’s thermal properties make a measurable difference.

Timber windows, repair before replace

Where damage appears in a timber window, repair remains a practical option.

Rot in a sill, new timber goes in. Damaged frame section, it gets rebuilt. The story with UPVC is not the same: no repair option, so when it goes, the entire unit goes to landfill and you’re starting from scratch.

Think about it: over the lifespan of a property, being able to maintain and repair timber windows rather than going for full replacement cuts serious money and reduces a lot of waste.

Eco credentials

We procure all our timber from ethically managed forests, so you can know it’s ethically produced.

Timber is a sustainable material that holds carbon for its entire life and decomposes cleanly at end of life. UPVC is a plastic derived from oil, and aluminium production is highly energy-intensive, worth knowing if the environment matters to you.

If the environmental impact of your house matters to you, timber is clearly the right option. It’s not complicated.

Look and value

Weight. Depth. Grain. No synthetic alternative can match it.

On a traditional sandstone tenement, a pale stone villa, or a traditional Scottish cottage, timber windows just belong in a way that UPVC just can’t pull off.

They bring genuine property value too. Especially period homes. Original or sympathetic features matter to buyers.

Double glazed timber windows

Sash or casement. Every window. Double-glazed sealed units included as standard.

The sealed unit sits inside the timber frame, two layers of glass with a cavity between them, cutting heat transfer and lifting sound insulation.

Put that double glazing together with the inherent thermal characteristics of the timber frame, and you’ve got strong thermal and acoustic results across both sash and casement.

Need glazing bars for a traditional divided-light appearance? We can add those too.

Still sound but single glazed? We can in many cases convert to double glazing as part of a restoration, keeping the original frames, lifting performance, and avoiding a full replacement.

This is a regular request on Kings Park’s older properties. The original sash windows are well-built, but the single glazing lets in cold air and road noise, and converting to double glazing solves both.

Every unit we install meets the latest building regulations for thermal standards. Always.

Conservation area timber windows

Scotland contains over 600 designated conservation areas.

If your property is in one of these areas, UPVC is not an approved window material, and your local council might well require replacements that match the original in material, design, and profile.

Over 20 years producing timber windows for conservation areas and listed buildings across Scotland, we understand what the council requires.

We can walk you through consent conditions and produce windows that meet every planning condition while still giving you modern standards. Our sash and case windows page covers the regulations in more depth if you want to read up.

Types of timber we use

Woodfellas uses two types of timber across its full window product range.

Most people choose treated pine. It’s pressure-treated to prevent rot and decay, takes a paint finish really well, and performs in Kings Park’s rain-heavy conditions with no trouble.

A natural timber look, extra hardwearing performance, hardwood is the answer for both. By nature more wear-resistant, and it accepts stains and oils beautifully.

We advise on the right timber for each job, based on the property, its exposure level, and the finish you want. Just let us know and we’ll steer you right.

Timber windows FAQ

What types of timber windows can you make?

We manufacture two main types: sash and case windows and casement windows, both available in treated pine or hardwood. Sash and case are the traditional Kings Park style, sliding up and down within a timber box frame. Casement windows are hinged and swing outward. We also build fixed window panels to match any opening configuration.

Timber or UPVC, which is the better window?

On all three fronts, performance, lifespan, and looks, yes, timber is the better choice. It insulates better at equivalent frame thicknesses, lasts significantly longer when regularly maintained, and can be restored rather than fully replaced when damage occurs. Timber is also the only material accepted for listed buildings and is greatly preferred in conservation areas.

Can I replace single glazing to double glazing in existing timber windows?

In most cases, yes. If your current timber frames are in good condition, we can switch the glazing to double-glazed sealed units as part of a restoration. That preserves the original frames and appearance while boosting thermal and acoustic performance.
