Woodfellas are Falkirk’s established timber window experts, making, refurbishing, and fitting wooden windows from a Falkirk base that serves residential properties and business properties right across Central Scotland.
Not a single window we produce without being custom-built. Ethically sourced treated pine or hardwood, double glazing, and upgraded security, all standard.
Whatever you need, sash and case for a tenement, casement for a contemporary extension, or a full replacement set for any type of property, we produce them in-house and fit ourselves.
Our timber window range
We make two main types of timber window, each built for different properties and specifications. Both are available in treated pine or hardwood, and both come with double-glazed sealed units as standard.
Traditional sash windows
The traditional window design for Scottish properties.
Sash windows slide vertically within a timber box frame, with a system of weighted cords and pulleys doing the work. They’re the standard window type on most of Falkirk’s period tenements, and the only accepted replacement for listed buildings and conservation area properties where sash and case was the original design.
We restore, repair, and make custom sash windows that replicate the original profiles and proportions while delivering modern thermal and acoustic performance.
If your original frames are in good condition, restoration, draught-proofing and double glazing upgrades, is usually the most sensible call. We complete full inspections before recommending any replacement, so you know exactly where you stand.

Casement windows
Casement windows open outward on hinges, creating a larger opening for airflow and making cleaning easier from inside. They’re the standard choice on Falkirk properties going back from the 1920s onwards, as well as extensions, dormers, and new builds.
We manufacture custom timber casement windows in side hung, top hung, and fixed setups. Just like our sash windows, every casement is built to order and fitted with double glazing as standard, no exceptions.

Why timber works best for windows
There’s a reason people have been installing timber windows in properties for centuries, and it’s not just because they always have. Timber truly outperforms UPVC and aluminium in a number of areas that make a difference to property owners.
Natural insulation
Timber conducts heat far less quickly than aluminium and outperforms UPVC at equivalent frame widths. The outcome is better thermal efficiency from the frame itself, and that’s before the double glazing gets involved.
Scotland. Cold. Costly to heat. A timber frame’s thermal qualities make a tangible difference.
Fix it, don’t replace it
Timber window deteriorates? You can fix it.
Rot in a sill or bottom rail can be cut out and fresh timber put in its place. A damaged portion of frame can be rebuilt. UPVC offers no such alternative: when it breaks, the whole unit ends up in landfill and everything starts again.
Year after year, repair and maintain rather than replace. Over the lifetime of a property, that adds up to real cost not spent and a lot less material going to landfill.
Sustainability
We get all our timber from responsibly managed forests, so you can be sure it’s responsibly produced.
Timber: renewable. Stores carbon. Biodegrades cleanly. UPVC: plastic from oil. Aluminium production: highly carbon-heavy.
If the environmental impact of your house counts to you, timber is the clear option. It’s as straightforward as that.
Character and appeal
The substance, depth, and natural texture of timber windows is something no artificial material can match.
Traditional sandstone tenement. Pale stone villa. Traditional Scottish cottage. Put timber windows in and they belong. Put UPVC in and something’s slightly off, it never quite manages that same fit.
Timber windows also contribute genuine value to a property, particularly period homes where original or sympathetic features are what attracts buyers.
Double glazing in wooden windows
All windows manufactured by Woodfellas, whether sash or casement, come with double-glazed sealed units included as standard.
The sealed unit fits within the timber frame and works with two panes of glass separated by a sealed cavity. The effect is lower heat transfer and better sound insulation.
The timber frame does its bit. The double glazing does its bit. Together they achieve solid thermal and acoustic performance across both styles, sash or casement, same result.
For properties that call for a traditional divided-light look, we can add glazing bars as part of the installation.
Still in good shape but single glazed? We can often convert to double glazing as part of a restoration, keeping the original frames, improving performance, and skipping a full replacement.
It’s a particularly common project on Falkirk’s older properties, solid original sash windows, but single glazing that allows in cold and road noise. Readily fixed.
Every unit we fit: meets the latest building regulations for thermal standards.

Timber windows for conservation areas and listed buildings
Scotland has over 600 recognised conservation areas, and if you’re in one, it makes a difference.
Conservation area, and your windows need replacing? UPVC is not an acceptable material, your local council will likely require replacements that mirror the original in material, design, and profile. It’s a firm requirement.
We’ve been producing timber windows for conservation area and listed building properties throughout Scotland for over 20 years. We know what the council expects, so you don’t have to work it out yourself.
We can walk you through consent conditions and produce windows that tick every planning condition while still giving you modern performance. Our sash and case windows page covers the regulations in more detail if you want to read up.
Types of timber we work with
Two timber types, and that’s what we use across the entire window range.
Treated pine is the most popular option, and for good reason. It’s pressure-treated to resist rot and decay, holds a paint finish well, and holds up well in Falkirk’s rain-heavy climate.
If you want a natural timber look, or if you need something harder-wearing, hardwood is the answer, it’s inherently more immune to damage and it accepts stains and oils really well.
Property, exposure level, finish, three things we look at before helping you choose the right timber for each project. Get those right and the rest follows.
Timber windows, your questions answered
What types of timber windows do you manufacture?
We make sash and case windows and casement windows, both available in treated pine or hardwood. Sash and case are the traditional Falkirk design, moving vertically within a timber box frame. Casement windows are hinged and open out. We also make fixed window panels to match any opening configuration.
Are timber windows better than UPVC?
For results, longevity, and looks? Yes, timber wins. It insulates better at the comparable frame thickness, lasts considerably longer when maintained, and can be restored not fully replaced. It’s also the sole material accepted for listed buildings and strongly preferred in conservation areas.
Can you upgrade single glazing to double glazing in existing timber windows?
In a significant number of cases, yes. Where existing timber frames are in sound condition, we can convert the glazing to double-glazed sealed units as part of a restoration. This preserves the original frames and appearance while lifting thermal and acoustic standards.
