If you need timber windows done properly in Eaglesham, Woodfellas are the ones to call. We produce, restore, and put in wooden windows out of our Eaglesham base, serving houses and commercial clients right across Central Scotland.
Every window that we produce is made to measure from sustainably sourced treated pine or hardwood, and double glazing and enhanced security are fitted as standard.
Tenements need sash and case, modern extensions want casement, and some properties need a full new set. Whatever the project, we build ourselves and install ourselves. No middlemen.
Wooden windows we make
We manufacture two main types of timber window, each suited to different properties and requirements. Both are available in treated pine or hardwood, and both come with double-glazed sealed units as standard.
Sash windows
The classic Scottish window, and still the first choice.
Sash windows operate by sliding vertically within a box frame, via a system of weighted cords and pulleys. They are the historic window type on most of Eaglesham’s period tenements, and they’re the only accepted replacement for listed buildings and conservation area properties where sash and case was the existing design.
We restore, fix, and make custom sash windows. Period profiles. Period proportions. Modern thermal and acoustic standards.
Restoration often covers draught-proofing and double glazing upgrades. Best route where original frames are sound. We inspect everything before recommending any replacement.

Casement windows
Hinged. Open out to open. Bigger opening, easier cleaning from inside. Standard on Eaglesham properties built from the 1920s on, including extensions, dormers, and newer builds.
Side hung, top hung, fixed, we make custom timber casement windows in all three setups. Like our sash windows, every single one is built to order and fitted with double glazing as standard.

Timber windows, why they’re the right choice
Timber’s historic position as the go-to window material is not simply a matter of tradition. It actually outperforms UPVC and aluminium in multiple areas that matter most to homeowners.
Timber’s natural insulation
Did you know timber carries heat far less quickly than aluminium, and it outperforms UPVC at the comparable frame width? That means stronger thermal performance from the frame itself, before you even factor in the double glazing.
Scotland. Cold. Expensive to heat. A timber frame’s thermal characteristics make a real impact.
Timber windows, repair before replace
The best thing about timber windows is that if something goes wrong, you can sort it.
Rot in a sill can be cut out and fresh timber fitted in. A damaged section of frame can be repaired. UPVC can’t be repaired in the same way. When it goes, the whole unit goes to landfill and you start over.
Over a property’s working life: repair and maintain, not replace. Cuts money. Reduces material waste.
Timber sustainability
Every bit of timber we work with is sourced from sustainably managed forests, that’s how we operate.
Timber is a renewable material, it holds carbon as it ages and biodegrades cleanly when it’s done. UPVC is plastic derived from oil, and aluminium production takes a huge amount of power.
If the environmental impact of your property counts to you, timber is the clear choice. It’s as simple as that.
Timber windows, character and value
Timber windows possess a heft, depth, and natural grain that no man-made material can match.
On a sandstone tenement, a blonde stone villa, or a period Scottish cottage, timber windows look right in a way UPVC just can’t. Worth noting if aesthetics matter to you.
They add genuine property value too. Especially period properties. Period features matter to buyers.
Double glazing timber windows
Whether sash or casement, all the windows we produce include double-glazed sealed units as standard. It’s always installed.
The sealed unit is housed inside the timber frame: it’s two layers of glass with a cavity between them, which cuts down on heat transfer and lifts sound insulation.
Combine the timber frame’s natural insulating qualities with double glazing and you get strong thermal and acoustic results across both window types.
If your property needs a traditional divided-light look, we can add glazing bars, just let us know.
If your older timber windows are still structurally sound but single glazed, we can in many cases upgrade them to double glazing as part of a restoration programme. This preserves the original frames and lifts performance without a full replacement.
This is a frequent job on Eaglesham’s older properties. The existing sash windows are well-built, but the single glazing allows in cold and ambient noise, and upgrading to double glazing fixes both.
Every unit we put in meets current building regulations governing thermal performance.

Timber windows for conservation areas
Scotland: over 600 officially recognised conservation areas.
If your property is in one of these areas, it’s worth understanding that UPVC is not an permitted window material. Your local council may require replacements that replicate the original in material, design, and profile.
We’ve been producing timber windows for conservation areas and listed buildings throughout Scotland for over 20 years, so we know what the council requires, nothing new to us.
We can walk you through consent conditions and make windows that satisfy planning condition while giving you modern performance. Our sash and case windows page covers the regulations in more detail.
Timber types
Two timber types. That’s it. We use both for the entire window product range.
Treated pine: most popular option. Pressure-treated against rot and decay. Holds paint well. Works reliably in Eaglesham’s damp conditions.
If you prefer a natural timber look, or if you need something extra durable, hardwood is the one, it’s inherently more resistant to deterioration and it accepts stains and oils beautifully.
Not sure which timber to go for? We recommend the right timber for each project based on the property, the exposure level, and the finish you have in mind.
FAQ, timber windows
What types of timber windows do you make?
We make two main types: sash and case windows and casement windows, both available in treated pine or hardwood. Sash and case are the traditional Eaglesham design, sliding vertically within a timber box frame. Casement windows are hinged and open out. We also produce fixed window panels to match any window opening configuration.
Are timber windows better than UPVC?
Yes, for results, lifespan, and appearance, timber is better. It insulates better at the equivalent frame thickness, lasts a lot longer when maintained, and can be repaired rather than fully replaced. It’s also the only material accepted for listed buildings and is greatly favoured in conservation areas.
Can you replace single glazing with double glazing in existing timber windows?
In most cases, yes. Sound current frames? We convert the glazing to double-glazed sealed units as part of a restoration. Existing frames are preserved, thermal and acoustic results improves.
