Sash and case for a tenement? Casements for a contemporary extension? A complete replacement set for any property? We make them all in-house and install ourselves.
Our timber window range
We produce two main types of timber window, each designed for different properties and requirements. Whichever you go for, both are offered in treated pine or hardwood and both feature double-glazed sealed units as standard.
Traditional sash windows
The classic Scottish window, and still the go-to.
Move up and down. Timber box frame. Cords and counterbalance weights. That’s a sash window. They’re on most of Coatbridge’s Victorian and Edwardian tenements and the only permitted replacement for listed buildings and conservation area properties where sash and case was the existing design.
We renovate, fix, and make custom sash windows built to match original profiles and proportions. The result is modern thermal and acoustic standards in a window that fits right in.
A lot of the time, renovating the original frames, draught-proofing and double glazing, is the smarter option if the frames themselves are still sound. We do a full survey before suggesting a replacement.

Hinged casement windows
Hinged. Swing outward to open. Bigger opening, easier cleaning from inside. Common on Coatbridge properties dating from the 1920s on, including extensions, dormers, and new builds.
We make custom timber casement windows in side hung, top hung, and fixed styles. Just like our sash windows, every casement is custom-built and fitted with double glazing as standard, no exceptions.
Our timber casement windows page covers all listed options and options in complete detail.
Why choose timber for your windows
Timber windows have been around for generations, and there’s a reason they’ve stayed the first choice. It’s not just tradition, timber actually outperforms UPVC and aluminium in multiple areas that make a difference to homeowners.
Natural insulating qualities
Timber conducts heat far less quickly than aluminium. Outperforms UPVC at the same frame thicknesses. Superior thermal performance from the frame itself, before the double glazing even gets involved.
Scotland. Cold. Expensive to heat. A timber frame’s insulating qualities make a tangible effect.
Repair, don’t replace
Timber window gets damaged? You can fix it.
Rot in a sill or bottom rail? Cut it out, splice in new timber. Damaged frame section? Rebuild it. UPVC isn’t repairable: it goes, it ends up in landfill, you start again.
Year after year, look after rather than replace. Over the lifetime of a property, that adds up to real money saved and a lot less material going to landfill.
Eco credentials
Every bit of timber we work with is procured from sustainably managed woodland, that’s how we operate.
Timber is a renewable material that sequesters carbon during its lifespan and decomposes cleanly at end of life. UPVC is a plastic based on oil, and aluminium manufacturing is highly energy-intensive, worth knowing if the environment is important to you.
If the carbon footprint of your home matters to you, timber is the clear choice. It’s as straightforward as that.
Beauty and appeal
Timber windows possess a substance, depth, and grain that no man-made alternative can match.
On a sandstone tenement, a pale stone villa, or a traditional Scottish cottage, timber windows just belong in a way that UPVC never quite manages.
And they contribute genuine value to a property too, especially older properties where period features are part of what makes them the appeal.
Double glazed timber windows
Every window we produce, sash or casement, features double-glazed sealed units as standard. No add-ons required.
The sealed unit is housed within the timber frame and works with two layers of glass with a sealed cavity. The result is less heat transfer and better sound insulation.
Timber frame. Double glazing. Combined: strong thermal and acoustic performance across both window styles.
Need glazing bars for a traditional divided-light appearance? We can add those too.
Where older timber windows are solid but only single glazed, we can often convert them to double glazing as part of a restoration programme, retaining the original frames and boosting thermal performance without necessitating a full replacement.
Coatbridge’s older properties bring up this request all the time. Solid existing sash windows, but single glazing that allows in cold and road noise like there’s nothing there.
Every sealed unit we fit complies with the latest building regulations governing thermal performance.

Conservation area timber windows
Scotland contains more than 600 recognised conservation areas.
If your property is in one of these areas, you need to know that UPVC is not an approved window material. Your local council may require replacements that mirror the original in material, design, and profile.
Having made timber windows for conservation area and listed building properties throughout Scotland for over 20 years, we have developed a thorough understanding of what the council expects.
We help with consent requirements. We build windows that satisfy planning condition. Modern standards included. Our sash and case windows page covers the regulations in more detail.
Our timber options
Two timber types. That’s what we use across the entire window range.
Treated pine is the most popular option, and for good reasons. It’s pressure-treated to prevent rot and decay, holds a painted finish well, and performs well in Coatbridge’s rain-heavy weather.
Want a natural timber finish? Need extra durability? Hardwood. Naturally more resistant to wear. Takes stains and oils really well.
Not sure which timber to choose? We advise on the right option for each project based on the property, the exposure level, and the finish you have in mind.
Wooden windows, frequently asked questions
Which timber window types do you manufacture?
We produce sash and case windows and casement windows, both available in treated pine or hardwood. Sash and case: the traditional Coatbridge design, moving up and down in a timber box frame. Casements: hinged, open outward. Fixed panels made too, for any window opening setup.
Are timber windows better than UPVC?
Three things: results, lifespan, looks. Timber wins on all three. More effective insulation at the equivalent frame thickness. Significantly longer lifespan when looked after. Can be repaired, not replaced. And it’s the sole material accepted for listed buildings, greatly preferred in conservation areas too.
Can existing timber windows be upgraded to double glazing?
In many cases, yes. Where current timber frames are in good condition, we can upgrade the glazing to double-glazed sealed units as part of a restoration. This keeps the existing frames and look while boosting thermal and acoustic standards.
