Woodfellas built our name in Campbeltown manufacturing timber windows, and that’s still what we do. We make, refurbish, and fit timber windows from our Campbeltown workshop, covering houses and commercial clients right across Central Scotland.
Made to measure, sustainably sourced timber, double glazing, improved security. Every window we make is built the same way. No shortcuts.
Tenement, extension, any property. Sash and case, casement, or a full new set: we build in-house and fit ourselves.
Our timber window lineup
Two types. Two sets of requirements. We build one for older properties, one for newer ones, but both come in treated pine or hardwood, and both feature double-glazed sealed units as standard.
Sash windows
Scotland’s classic window type.
Sash windows slide vertically within a timber box frame, with a system of cords and counterbalance weights doing the work. They’re the standard window type on most of Campbeltown’s period tenements, and the only accepted replacement for listed buildings and conservation area properties where sash and case was the original design.
We restore, fix, and build custom sash windows. Original profiles. Period proportions. Modern thermal and acoustic performance.
Here’s the thing: refurbishing your original frames with draught-proofing and double glazing upgrades is often the smartest move if the frames are still sound. We always do a full inspection before recommending replacement.

Casement windows
Casement windows open out on hinges, giving a larger opening for fresh air and making cleaning easier from inside. They’re the common option on Campbeltown properties going back from the 1920s onwards, as well as extensions, dormers, and new builds.
We make custom timber casement windows in side hung, top hung, and fixed configurations. Just like our sash windows, every casement is built to order and double glazed as standard, no exceptions.

Why timber works best for windows
Timber windows have been around for hundreds of years, and there’s a reason they’ve stayed the first choice. It’s not just tradition, timber actually outperforms UPVC and aluminium in a number of areas that make a difference to property owners.
How timber insulates naturally
Timber carries heat far less readily than aluminium. Outperforms UPVC at comparable frame widths. Stronger thermal efficiency from the frame itself, before the double glazing even factors in.
In a place like Scotland, where heating costs represent a real concern for property owners, the thermal characteristics of a timber frame make a tangible impact.
Fix, don’t replace
Timber window deteriorates? You can fix it.
Rot in a sill or bottom rail? Take it out, put in new timber. Damaged frame part? Rebuild it. UPVC isn’t repairable: it fails, it ends up in landfill, you start again.
Over the lifespan of a property, being able to look after timber windows rather than replacing them cuts real cost and cuts down on waste.
Timber and sustainability
We source all our timber from ethically managed forest, so you can know it’s ethically produced.
Stores carbon as long as it stands, then decomposes cleanly. No landfill, no harmful process. UPVC is plastic from oil, and aluminium production is highly carbon-heavy. The contrast doesn’t need explaining.
If the environmental side matters to you the carbon footprint of your home, timber is the obvious choice.
Timber windows, character and value
Timber windows have a weight, character, and natural grain that no artificial alternative can replicate.
On a sandstone tenement, a light stone villa, or a traditional Scottish cottage, timber windows just belong in a way UPVC never quite manages.
And they add real value to a property too, especially period homes where original or sympathetic features are part of the appeal.
Double-glazed timber windows
Sash or casement, it doesn’t matter. Every window that we make comes with double-glazed sealed units installed as standard. Always has been.
The sealed unit sits inside the timber frame: it’s two panes of glass with a cavity between them, which reduces heat transfer and lifts sound insulation.
Combined with the natural thermal qualities of the timber frame, a double-glazed timber window achieves solid thermal and acoustic performance across both sash and casement styles.
For properties that need a traditional divided-light look, we can install glazing bars as an addition.
Still solid but single glazed? We can often upgrade to double glazing as part of a restoration, keeping the original frames, lifting performance, and skipping a full replacement.
Common on Campbeltown’s older properties. Original sash windows: solid. Single glazing: admits cold air and street noise.
Every sealed unit we install satisfies current building regulations governing thermal standards.

Timber windows and conservation areas
There are over 600 conservation areas across Scotland, quite a total.
If your property is in one of these areas, UPVC isn’t an acceptable window material, and your local council may well insist on replacements that replicate the original in material, design, and profile.
Having produced timber windows for conservation area and listed building properties throughout Scotland for over 20 years, we have a thorough understanding of what the council expects.
We can help you with consent requirements and make windows that tick every planning condition while still giving you modern standards. Our sash and case windows page covers the regulations in more depth if you want to read up.
Timber types
Two timber types. That’s it. We stock both across the entire window product range.
Most customers pick treated pine. It’s pressure-treated to resist rot and decay, holds a paint finish well, and handles Campbeltown’s rain-heavy weather without any issue.
If you prefer a natural timber look, or if you need something more durable, hardwood is the answer, it’s by nature more immune to damage and it accepts stains and oils beautifully.
Property. Exposure. Finish. We advise on the right timber for each job.
Timber windows, your questions answered
What types of timber windows do you make?
We make sash and case windows and casement windows, both offered in treated pine or hardwood. Sash and case are the traditional Campbeltown design, moving vertically within a timber box frame. Casement windows open out. We also make fixed window panels for any window opening configuration.
Timber or UPVC, which is the better window?
On all three fronts, thermal performance, lifespan, and appearance, yes, timber is the better choice. It insulates more effectively at equivalent frame widths, lasts significantly longer when properly maintained, and can be repaired rather than fully replaced when damage occurs. Timber is also the only material permitted for listed buildings and is highly favoured in conservation areas.
Replacing single glazing to double glazing in timber windows, is it possible?
In a significant number of cases, yes. Where existing timber frames are in good condition, we can upgrade the glazing to double-glazed sealed units as part of a restoration programme. This retains the original frames and appearance while lifting thermal and acoustic standards.
