Timber Windows Cambuslang

Woodfellas are the timber window experts working out of Cambuslang. We make, renovate, and install timber windows from our Cambuslang base, covering both homes and commercial properties across Central Scotland.

Every window is built to order. Responsibly sourced treated pine or hardwood. Double glazing and upgraded security as standard.

Tenement, extension, any property. Sash and case, casement, or a full new set: we build in-house and install ourselves.

Our timber windows

Two main types of timber window, each perfectly suited to different properties and requirements. Both available in treated pine or hardwood, and both include double-glazed sealed units as standard.

Sash window types

Scotland’s classic window style.

Sash windows slide vertically within a timber box frame, with a system of cords and counterbalance weights doing the work. They’re the historic window type on most of Cambuslang’s period tenements, and the required replacement for listed buildings and conservation area properties where sash and case was the existing design.

Whether your sash windows need refurbishing, fixing, or replacing altogether, we make custom ones that replicate the original profiles and proportions, while still delivering modern thermal and acoustic performance.

The existing frames are solid, so why swap them? Restoration, draught-proofing and double glazing upgrades, is often the most sensible call. We carry out full inspections first, before we recommend going further.

Casement windows

Casement windows open out on hinges, giving a wider opening for fresh air and making window cleaning simple from inside. They’re the standard option on Cambuslang properties going back from the 1920s onwards, as well as rear extensions, dormers, and new builds.

Side hung, top hung, fixed, we make custom timber casement windows in all three configurations. Like our sash windows, every single one is made to measure and double glazed as standard.

Why choose timber for your windows

Centuries of timber windows, and they’re not still around out of habit. Timber truly outperforms UPVC and aluminium in several areas that count to households. The record speak for themselves.

How timber insulates naturally

Timber carries heat far less easily than aluminium and outperforms UPVC at comparable frame widths. This means superior thermal efficiency from the frame itself, before the double glazing is even added.

In Scotland, where heating bills are a real challenge, the insulating characteristics of a timber frame make a measurable impact, and that matters over time.

Repair not replace

The key thing about timber windows is that if something goes wrong, you can repair it.

Rot in a sill or bottom rail, new timber goes in. Damaged frame section, it gets replaced in section. The story with UPVC is not the same: it can’t be repaired, so when it goes, the entire unit ends up in landfill and you’re back at the beginning.

Over a property’s working life: repair and maintain, not replace. Saves money. Cuts waste.

Eco credentials

The timber we work with is procured from responsibly managed forest, every bit of it.

Timber is a renewable resource, it holds carbon as it works and biodegrades naturally when it’s done. UPVC is plastic made from oil, and aluminium manufacturing takes a significant amount of power.

If the carbon impact of your home is important to you, timber is clearly the right choice. It’s not complicated.

The appeal and value of timber windows

Timber windows have a heft, depth, and grain that no artificial material can replicate.

On a sandstone tenement, a pale stone villa, or a traditional Scottish cottage, timber windows achieve an visual rightness that UPVC never quite manages.

And they contribute tangible value to a property too, especially older properties where original or sympathetic features are part of the attraction.

Timber windows with double glazing

Every window we manufacture, sash or casement, features double-glazed sealed units included as standard. Always.

Two panes of glass. A sealed cavity between them. The sealed unit fits inside the timber frame and manages the rest, limiting heat transfer, lifting sound insulation.

The timber frame’s inherent thermal properties combined with the double-glazed sealed unit achieve solid thermal and acoustic performance across both window styles. That’s what you get as standard.

We can also install glazing bars if your property requires a traditional divided-light look.

If your older timber windows are still structurally sound but single glazed, we can often switch them to double glazing as part of a restoration programme. This keeps the existing frames and lifts performance without a full replacement.

This is a frequent request on Cambuslang’s older properties, where solidly built existing sash windows perform structurally well but single glazing admits cold air and road noise.

Every unit we install: satisfies current building regulations for thermal performance.

Timber windows for conservation areas

More than 600 conservation areas throughout Scotland. The chances are yours is one of them.

If your property is in one of these areas, it’s worth understanding that UPVC is not an acceptable window material. Your local council will often require replacements that mirror the original in material, design, and profile.

We’ve been making timber windows for conservation area and listed building properties across Scotland for over 20 years. We understand what the council requires, so you don’t have to figure it out yourself.

We can walk you through consent conditions and make windows that tick every planning condition while still giving you modern standards. Our sash and case windows page covers the regulations in more detail if you want to read up.

Our timber options

We stock two timber types across all window product range, here’s what you need to know about each.

Treated pine is what most customers choose, pressure-treated to prevent rot and decay, accepts a paint finish well, and performs in Cambuslang’s rain-heavy weather without a problem.

For properties where a natural timber look is wanted, or where additional strength is required, we offer hardwood, which is inherently more resistant to wear and takes stains and oils with excellent results.

Property, exposure level, finish, three things we consider before recommending the right timber for each job. Get those right and the rest follows.

Timber windows, your questions answered

What types of timber windows do you manufacture?

We make sash and case windows and casement windows, both available in treated pine or hardwood. Sash and case are the traditional Cambuslang design, moving up and down within a timber box frame. Casement windows open out. We also build fixed window panels for any window opening configuration.

Are timber windows better than UPVC?

For results, longevity, and looks? Yes, timber is better. It insulates better at the comparable frame thickness, lasts significantly longer when maintained, and can be fixed rather than fully replaced. It’s also the only material accepted for listed buildings and is greatly favoured in conservation areas.

Can you upgrade single glazing with double glazing in existing timber windows?

In many cases, yes! If your current frames are in solid condition, we can convert to double-glazed sealed units as part of a restoration, retaining the existing frames and appearance while improving thermal and acoustic results.
